Fit a Workout Into Any Busy Day

I know you’re busy. You’re running from work to a networking event and you have to stop to get that baby shower gift you keep forgetting about. There’s no time for a workout.

 

Some women are masters of getting up at 5am and exercising for 60 minutes when the air is still and the birds are chirping. If that is you, please send me your secrets. But if you are like me and aren't a morning person, you need more creative ways to fit a workout into your schedule. 

 

The good news is that if you have 30 minutes, you can fit in a sweat session with these tips.

 

Invest in all black sneakers

 

If you want to fit in a gym session between commitments, the worst thing is carrying your gym bag around. The worst thing about carrying your gym back around is carrying sneakers with you.

 

Here’s an awesome thing: invest in a pair of all black, lightweight sneakers (mine are Nike Frees) and in many fields you can get away with wearing them all day at work. Just pair them with a nice skirt or a cigarette pant.

 

Pack a pair of shorts, a sports bra and a lightweight tank in your purse and you are good to go! Don’t forget a little cloth bag to toss your dirty clothes in after you’re done. Bonus points for investing in a gym that offers towels and toiletries, then you literally don’t have to worry about packing anything else.

 

No gym bag = magic

 

Pick your gym strategically

 

The location of your gym can either by your best friend, or a nightmare. Pick a gym that is on your typical travel route during the week, like between home and work. That way you can drop in without adding to your travel time. Once you are there, strategically pick certain work outs according to your schedule, which is a great segue to….

 

Save weights for your busiest day

 

A long cardio or HIIT session = a lot of sweat

A short weights session = a much smaller, more manageable amount of sweat

 

If you have a short weights workout in your routine, say an arm day or leg day, then save this for your busiest days. Change clothes quickly and then jog for 4 minutes, knock out your routine without lingering to text or chat, do a quick stretch and get out of there in 30 minutes flat. Pick your cutest workout outfit for this day and go to drinks or dinner straight from the gym floor.

 

Videos are your new best friend

With the help of a seasoned professional, you can take literally 20 minutes in your living room and get in a workout with a capital W. If you have to run straight out to a commitment, meal prep the night or weekend before and bring food with you.
